HP Journal Complete Table of Contents — A Claude-Built Archive
Left: William R. Hewlett, 1993 (CC BY-SA 3.0, Alanhtripp / Wikimedia Commons). Right: David Packard as Deputy Secretary of Defense (public domain, U.S. Department of Defense).
The Hewlett-Packard Journal ran from 1949 to 1998 — nearly fifty years of technical articles written by HP engineers about the instruments, computers, and systems they built. Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard started HP in a Palo Alto garage in 1939; by the time the Journal ceased publication the company had touched nearly every corner of electronics, computing, and measurement.
This table of contents was extracted heuristically from 478 PDF issues using PyMuPDF, with Claude Code helping to structure, clean, and organize the output. TOC quality is best for the 1976–1997 era where issues had structured Articles/Contents sections. Early issues and some later ones may have incomplete entries due to OCR limitations on the original scans.
The HP Journal PDFs are archived at the HP Memory Project.
HP Journal — Complete Table of Contents
